After the installation of a Creative Labs Live PCI based sound card, the BIOS / POST routine and Windows 2000 do not recognize the new device.

 

 
Applies To: The BIOS will not detect that a new card exists, and a clean installation of Windows 2000 Professional does not resolve the issue.

1. Determine if an IRQ / hardware address conflict exists.

2. Update lastest drivers for the mainboard's chipsets.

3. Update latest drivers for the sound card.

4. Insert PCI sound card into a different slot on the mainboard.

After trying a different slot, the BIOS / post routine recoginzed the card successfully and assigned it along with another "input device" IRQ #5.

5. Remove excess PCI expansion cards and reboot.

6. Install a completely different sound card to see if the problem is replicated.
