There was a point in time in which PC’s were never heard; they were only seen.  There could be the occasional beeps coming from the system speaker, but that’s it. Creative Labs changed the PC landscape forever by setting the standard in sound boards.  The sound card is one of those “must-have” peripherals in any machine.  In this chapter, I gave you a brief introduction to the sound card and explained how they function.  I also covered the various architectural interfaces the sound card could come in, and recommendations were given on how to purchase a sound card that could fit your system.  To finish off this chapter, full step-by-step instructions were given on adding a Sound Blaster compatible sound card to your existing computer.
